i woke up at 3am last night to catch the world cup final, got bored cos there wasn't any goal after so long, went back to sleep, got waked up by the cheering in the neighbourhood, switched on the tv again, saw the replay of spain's goal, saw netherland's upset faces, and saw spain putting on their new jerseys with one star on it. :) dad says real soccer fans watch soccer for the game and not just the goals. oops :p

the first time i came across world cup was when i was in sec 1. it was world cup 2002, held in korea and japan during our june holidays. jiang laoshi gave us a piece of holiday assignment before that, which was to write a chinese compo titled 2010年再见世界杯赛时. i don't remember myself doing very well for that compo though, haha, probably because no.1 at the tender age of 13, i almost never watched soccer properly before, and no.2 2010 seemed so far away.

brazil won the cup for that year. and i really really liked ronaldo since then. i might be wrong with my judgments, but i thought as compared to players like beckham who seemed to care more about his hairstyle than his skills, ronaldo appeared a lot more down-to-earth, friendly and humble. besides, don't you think he really looks quite cute, with that hair, teeth and beer belly, hahaha.

to lose with grace, to win with dignity, and to respect your opponents for the amount of effort that they put in, i thought these are among the most important qualities that a sportsman, and any other man, should possess.
