hello! my sleeping hours are getting better everyday, woke up at 5.30am this morning which is a huge improvement (: hence i had plenty of time to skype with dad and mum and make myself breakfast and visit the supermarket before going for class. and i'm still not feeling sleepy now though it's already approaching 11pm. good job zhangfan, tomorrow i'll wake up after 6. (:
today we had combined lectures with msc finance and econs which has a better representation of different races lol. it was 6 hours of maths D: draining ttm seriously. a lot of the stuff resembles A level maths which i barely remember, and there's going to be a test on friday D: though it won't be counted everyone still seems quite serious about it.
anyway just now when i was cooking dinner in the kitchen i met this british guy who just moved into our flat today. we talked a lot while cooking and then we just ate together in the dining room. he's doing a phd in english literature and politics and he got his masters from oxford. talking to him was really eye-opening. he told me about his opinions on the study of language, that he thinks the learning of language always starts off as a natural process in babies but when people grow up they become conscious of the fact that they're learning a language and then the whole thing just becomes different which is quite sad. and he told me that he really likes the chinese culture and he thinks there is no one word which can be used to describe china because its culture is just so diverse. and he told me about how he feels that income inequality is the root cause of the recent riots in uk and he wonders what the british government has been doing to cause the degree of income inequality in uk to be the same as that in ghana. and much more. i can't remember when was the last time someone talked to me about stuff like those. his perspectives are really insightful and he's really well-read. it made me realise that my concerns are all so trivial in comparison to those of people out there who're genuinely concerned about the many problems in our society.
on a side note, i enjoy going to the supermarket on my own because i'm free to walk around the huge place and look for my stuff without having to accommodate someone else. and i haven't found any friend that i can feel comfortable enough with to not feel bad making her/him walking around in circles with me. but whenever i see students in the supermarket going in pairs or small groups, i'll still feel a bit lonely. sigh haha.

youre drained because you woke up too early or was the lecture tough? how many modules are you taking and such? 5day work week?
the talk w the brit sounds awesome. i would really have met him and talked to him, alongside you darling (:
babe love, dont worry alright, you will make friends slowly! (: look out for hall orientation and such?
hello dar! you're my blog's number one fan haha ((: i'm having 5 day weeks, taking 4 main subjects this term as well as other random classes like excel and writing. and don't worry about me alright! i'm making friends but i guess as we get older it really gets harder to find friends with whom you're willing to open up to completely. there's no hall orientation but really don't worry ok, the people that i've come across here are all extremely nice (:
