my jetlag's getting better everyday, at least i'm feeling much less sleepy than this hour last night haha.
anyway i'm really starting to fall in love with this place. i agree that their level of efficiency is far below that of singapore, but the people here are really nice and friendly. and they take everything so calmly, it's hard not to feel calm along with them. and they're genuinely nice. when you ask for directions they'll explain and explain till they're sure that you understand. when they make a mistake they'll apologise profusely and you can tell that they're really sincere about it. and people greet one another 'have a nice day' just as often as we say hellos and byebyes, even among strangers. maybe it's because i'm in a school so the environment is a lot better, but i'm feeling so very touched because it seems that when people treat you nicely, you'll want to treat others nicely too and everything just ends up in a positive vicious cycle.
anyway today was day 1 at school and i got to meet the coursemates. i think about 80% of the batch are asians? like what glenn said the caucasions are like the exchange students here and you totally don't feel like you're sitting in an lt of a uk university lol. the academic director and associate dean and careers consultant were all such impressive speakers, and they kept emphasizing that the course is going to be really tough but they have absolute faith in us and it's going to be a fulfilling experience. anyway dissertation is individual work, 12,000 words and will span over 6 months: there is probably no way i can go back before september next year.
sigh i miss everyone but why does singapore feel so distant now. ): i shall try to update more often before school starts to get busier or before my excitement dies down lol.
